If you're staying in for Valentine's Day this year, make a little more special by throwing together a nice little table setting. Whether you are ordering in or whipping up something tasty in the kitchen, here are some simple suggestions to make it a lovely and romantic evening.
Now, just because it's Valentine's Day, that doesn't mean everything has to be pink and covered in glitter. Trust me, I love me some glitter, but my husband is not such a fan. So, I try to tone it down for him. You can pick whatever theme or color scheme you like. It could relate to the cuisine, like Italian, Greek, or Chinese. You could go for an overall theme, like "An Evening in Paris". A favorite movie could be the focus, like "Breakfast at Tiffany's", with a Tiffany blue color scheme.
For my holiday motif, I chose to go with roses, because I have these lovely rose print plates. The best way to start it to begin with something that you already have, and build from there. I pulled from the red and green tones in the plates, and mixed it up with some rustic elements. I'm not super girly, so this was perfect for me. I used a green table cloth that I bought and used for my Christmas tablescape, as well as the strip of burlap from the craft store. Then, I pulled items from around the house that tied in with the colors that I chose. The gold A & K letters were from our wedding, which I usually keep on display in the living room. A couple of mismatched vases and candle holders brought everything together effortlessly, and to top it off I used a large vase/plant holder to ice down the champagne. Get creative with it!
I added a little sparkle with some hearts I punched out of red glitter craft paper (I couldn't help myself). I also made some Cupid's arrow drink stirrers, and napkin ring wraps. All of which you could easily do without. Use what is available to you. If you feel that you need to jazz it up a little more, add some fresh flowers, or head to your local dollar store to pick up some inexpensive pieces to mix in, like place mats, candle holders, vases, glassware, dishes, balloons, and more.
