Shop Local

I hope you all got a change to catch my post on Monday, and will keep up with what's happening over here at Gypsies Crafts & Treats!

Today I wanted to talk about shopping local. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, a lot of you will be out looking for the perfect gift for that special someone. Even if you aren't big into the Hallmark holidays, there will inevitably be occasions when you are in need of a present for someone you close to your heart. Whether it be a birthday, an anniversary, a new baby, a graduation, a new job, or for no reason at all; there is always a cause for celebration and gift giving. So, why not take it a step further and celebrate the work of small businesses and local artists? You can buy a card or candle anywhere, but why not buy it from a shop where there is a mere one degree of separation between you and the person who created it? A place where you can purchase items made by people who are passionate about they do.

Here in Richmond, Orange is the place where you can do just that. It is a cute little shop located on Cary Street, where you can find cards, candles, jewelry, art, photography, clothing, furniture, and more! All made by local artists. They were even featured in Better Homes and Gardens! I am a bit partial, because I sell my parties supplies there, but I shop there as well. I did half of my Christmas shopping at Orange, because I love the products, and I want to help support a community that supports me. I have purchased several gorgeous pieces of jewelry from Maslo Jewelry for both myself and family members, I have Justin Tran's "Neighborhoods of Richmond" print hanging in my home, I've given Plain Jane Soaps as gifts and love her candles, and most recently I bought one of Black Bird Tees "My Moon My Man" shirts, which is so soft and comfortable, as well as super cool. My girl Victoria of Our Wander Life just started selling prints of her spectacular photography there, which I can't wait to see and pick one up for myself! There are always new artists joining the mix, and fresh items arriving daily. I love browsing the new selections when I go in to drop off my products, and know that I will always find something I love, or that someone else will love.

The owners of Orange, Cathy and Courtney, as well as the staff, are always so kind and friendly when you are there, which makes for a lovely shopping experience. If you're really lucky, Richmond the shop pup with be there to greet you with a happy tail wag, and maybe a few puppy kisses. I love that little guy! Stop in if you're in the area, take a look around, and help support your local community. If you don't live in the Richmond area, find some great spots in your area and help keep small businesses alive!

If you do swing by Orange, make sure to check out my selection of party supplies!
